Snapchat provides its users with a wide variety of social media content, but it doesn’t always provide much in the way of in-app explanations of how everything works. In the chat window, many users are confused by the emoticons that display next to their friends’ usernames. Depending on your history with a given user, different emoji will have different meanings.
In theory, this is a simple function. However, for the uninitiated, the conversation tab may become a bit chaotic due to the presence of the ten distinct emojis that can appear there. Here’s a cheat sheet to help you decipher all of Snapchat’s Friend Emojis.
Meanings of Snapchat’s Emoticons

As was previously mentioned, there are a total of 10 distinct Friend Emojis that can be displayed next to a user’s name in the conversation window. While they are modifiable (discussed further down), we will only be discussing the standard emojis here.
With this emoji, you may let your “Super BFF” know that they have your absolute undying love and devotion. Only someone who has been your best Snapchat friend for at least two consecutive months will receive this honour from you.
By using the red heart emoji, you can let someone know that they are your best friend. The definition of a best friend on Snapchat is someone who has been your most-popular friend for at least two weeks straight. A red heart will change to a pink one after two months of friendship.

Indicating that someone is your “Bestie” with a gold heart emoji. A Bestie is someone who is both your best Snapchat friend and someone who you are that person’s best friend. The gold heart will change to the red one described above after two weeks of being Besties.
Emoji with a smile on its face commonly used to signify a “BF” relationship. Your BF on Snapchat is one of your closest pals that isn’t your Bestie. Increasing your friend count with someone requires more frequent Snap communication.
With this emoji, you’re letting the world know that you and this person are “Mutual Besties.” If you and someone else both count that person as one of your closest friends, you and that person are mutual best friends.
Wearing the sunglasses face emoji means you and the recipient share a “Mutual BF.” If one of your BFs has a BF, then you and that BF have a Mutual BF.

When you and someone have a “Snapstreak,” the fire emoji will appear in your conversation bubble. A Snapstreak is a string of consecutive Snaps sent to the same person. Your current streak duration will be shown as a number next to the fire emoji.
The hourglass emoji means your Snapstreak is coming to an end. For those with whom you’ve begun a streak but are on the verge of breaking it, the hourglass emoji will display next to the fire emoji. In order to keep the streak going without the hourglass appearing, all you have to do is send a Snap to someone.

A pinned conversation is represented by the pin emoji. If you have a conversation that you want to keep at the top of the chat tab, you can “pin” it. It’s possible to pin either an individual friend or the entire conversation.
