In honour of the ongoing IPL season, Twitter revealed on Tuesday that it is testing a cricket-specific option on the Explore page in India.
This new tab is a specialised hub where cricket followers can go to learn about the latest happenings in the sport and follow their favourite teams and players.
The Twitter-first material includes video highlights, a live cricket scoreboard, and more. As a means of boosting activity among cricket fans and giving them another cause to discuss their favourite teams on the microblogging service, Twitter has released special IPL team emoticons in English and seven Indic languages.
As a test, Twitter is releasing the Cricket tab to Android users in India. Find it under the heading IPL on the Explore page.

You may get the most recent tweets and field updates on the tab’s dedicated page. During live cricket matches, you can also check the score on the Events page.
Content widgets like top players and team rankings will also be available on the specialised Cricket tab. In addition, we’ll be providing bespoke video coverage of key moments both on and off the field.
For AMAs with experts, franchise content, and live in-studio action in five languages (English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, and Kannada), Twitter has teamed up with Star Sports.
Cricbuzz will provide match previews and reviews, and sports journalist Boria Majumdar will host pre- and post-match shows and interviews.
Twitter’s Cricket category will showcase machine-learned tweets about cricket with videos. Fans of the Indian Premier League can also keep up with the latest happenings at the competition by following the IPL topic on the site.
Cricket fans on Twitter can obtain tweets about their favourite teams and players on a separate timeline by following specialised Twitter Lists. In addition, to live tweeting the action, Twitter will send you push notifications at crucial times during games.

For IPL 2022, Twitter has designed special emojis for each team in English, Hindi, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Punjabi, Tamil, and Telugu. These emojis will also be available to users in these languages.
Twitter’s efforts to delight Indian cricket fans are not new, by any means. Twitter introduced its cricket scorecard and community in the country for last year’s World Cup. It also retroactively included a screen for the World Cup timeline, along with the most recent results.
Twitter claims that 75% of its Indian users are cricket enthusiasts and 58% are cricket players, giving some indication of the popularity of the platform among cricket fanatics in the nation.
Also, the business asserted that there were 4.4 million users who posted 96.2 million cricket-related tweets on its site between January 2021 and January 2022.
