Snipping Tool: Easy and Quick Ways to Use Snipping Tools in Windows

Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 10, and Windows 11 all include a tool called the Snipping Tool. It’s capable of saving an image file including a screenshot of the entire screen, a specific window, or a rectangular region of the screen.

You may use this tool to grab just the recipe from a web page and send it to a friend without including the entire page. This screenshot demonstrates the Windows snipping tool in action.

Version 11 of Windows

To begin, just press the “Start” button.

To use the snipping tool, enter it into the search bar and hit Enter.

To change the capture mode, simply click the ellipses (…) to the right of the + New option.

Snipping Tool:

To initiate a fresh snipping session, either select New from the menu or hit the Windows key plus Shift plus S.

If you’re working in Window mode, choose the window you want to record from.

Hold down the left mouse button in either Rectangle or Free-form mode, then drag to pick the area you wish to capture before releasing the button.

The screenshot is shown in the Snipping Tool window, and the toolbar expands to reveal further customization possibilities. The image can be saved, copied, or shared. In addition to highlighting and erasing text, you may add a personalized remark to the snip.

Windows 8 and Windows 10

To begin, just press the “Start” button.

To use the snipping tool, enter it into the search bar and hit Enter.

To select the type of snip you’d like to take, head to the Mode drop-down menu and pick either Free-form Snip, Rectangle Snip, Window Snip, or Full-screen Snip.

To initiate a brand new snipping session, select the New button.

If Window Snip was chosen, then the desired window must be chosen.

In order to take a screenshot using either Free-form Snip or Rectangle Snip, you must first press and hold the left mouse button, then drag the mouse to pick the area you wish to capture before releasing the button.

When you select the text you wish to copy, the Save As menu will appear on the toolbar. Snip has three different options: save, copy, and send.

Microsoft Paint also allows you to add your own writing to the snip, highlight specific sections, undo your changes, and more.

Windows 7

Note

Windows 7 Starter Edition lacks this functionality.

To begin, just press the “Start” button.

To use the snipping tool, enter it into the search bar and hit Enter.

To select the type of snip you’d like to take, head to the Mode drop-down menu and pick either Free-form Snip, Rectangle Snip, Window Snip, or Full-screen Snip.

If Window Snip was chosen, then the desired window must be chosen.
