Load-Shedding

As of July 9-12, Eskom will be carrying out mandatory load shedding.

From 00:00 – 07:00 on July 9th, Eskom customers should expect Stage 2. Stage 3 is open from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Stage 2 will run from 00:00 to 16:00 on July 10th. 16:30 – 24:00 on Stage 3.

Stage 2 runs from 00:00 to 16:00 on Saturday, July 11th. It’s now time for Stage 3, which runs from 16:00 to 24:00.

Stage 2 will run from 00:00 to 24:00 on July 12th.

9 July: Stage 2 from 00:00 until 22:00. 22:00 – 24:00: Third stage

Tuesday, July 10: Stage 2 from midnight until five o’clock in the morning. Stage 1 runs from 05:00 until 16:00. 16:30 – 22:00: The second stage It’ll be stage 3 from 22:00 to 24:00

Stage 2 will run from 00:00 to 22:00 on July 11th. This is the final stage, which runs from 22:00 to 24:00.

Stage 2 from 00:00 to 05:00 on July 12th. Time: 05:00 to 22:00 (Stage 1). Stage 2 is from 22:00 to 24:00 hrs.

When not in use, be mindful of your usage of electricity and turn off major equipment that consumes a lot of it.

Stages and Timetables for Load Shedding

As the country’s power demand grows, so does the severity of the shortfall of generation capacity to satisfy it. Stage 1 is the least severe, while stage 8 is the most severe.

Typical outages last about 2.5 hours. The borders of the load-shedding area may alter from time to time due to technological concerns.

How to Verify Your Own Schedule

On the map, look for your neighborhood and the appropriate number (use the all areas map or the individual maps to verify this).

A load-shedding plan has been released. The dates and locations of those affected on each day, as well as the time slots for each day, are shown up above (from left to right) (from top to bottom).

The City of Cape Town’s load shedding schedule applies to Zones 1 through 16.

Suggestions for Troubleshooting

When the power goes out, turn off and disconnect all electrical gadgets and appliances, since they could be damaged by a spike in the voltage when the power is restored.

The City’s technical operations center can be reached at 31220 if your energy is out for longer than the scheduled time.

When power is restored, a phenomenon is known as “nuisance tripping” occurs, which often goes unnoticed since the interruption is mistakenly attributed to load-shedding.

Plan Beforehand

Cash:

ATMs require electricity to function, so always have some cash on hand.

You should always have a full charge on your cell phone, laptop, tablet, and radio. This will help you to keep in touch with loved ones during load-shedding.

Eating:

Prepare meals ahead of time if you don’t have access to a gas burner. Keep hot water in thermos flasks by boiling it in your kettle.

Teapots, pots, and pans can all benefit from an insulating cover to keep their contents heated for longer periods of time.

You should consult your doctor or pharmacist if you have any doubts about the safety of food that requires refrigeration.

Safety and Security:

Electrically operated gates, garage doors, and security systems require well-maintained backup batteries that can withstand power outages.

Make it easier to locate temporary lights, such as battery-powered torches, gas lamps, and candles, in the dark.

In the event of a power outage, most gas stations will not be able to pump fuel into your vehicle.
