Facebook Is Locking out Users: Those Who Did Not Activate the “protect” Security Feature Were Locked out

Facebook Is Locking out Users

There is a good chance that you can’t log in right now because Facebook Protect hasn’t been activated in your account.

It was in early March that Facebook started sending out an email to select users with the subject line, “You require advanced security from Facebook Protect.” If they didn’t do so by the due dates, they would be locked out of their accounts.

That address, security@facebookmail.com, appears to be one of the most commonly used spam addresses, so many Facebook users ignored the email.

The email was not spam, as it turned out. In order to avoid being locked out of their accounts, Facebook was trying to contact high-risk users by March 17 and ask them to take action.

The people who didn’t activate Facebook Protect before the deadline are now receiving messages about why they can’t access their accounts and what they need to do next, as a result.

But it’s not quite that straightforward. Users who activated the function before the deadline were locked out of their accounts, according to Twitter reports.

Text-based two-factor authentication codes have also been noted to have technical concerns by some users.

In December of last year, Meta stated that it would soon require two-factor authentication for its highest-risk consumers.

If you’re a high-risk user, such as a journalist or a government figure who could be targeted by cyber thieves, Facebook Protect is a feature you can enable on your profile.

Listed below is a step-by-step guide on how to activate Facebook Protect in your account if you haven’t already.
