Every day, I use Discord to play video games and talk with pals. We gather on our personal server and engage in constant verbal sparring via the voice chat feature of the program. I promise it’s out of love. Having used Discord since the pandemic started, I chose to try out the app’s monthly membership plan.
I was interested in learning exactly what the paid edition included and whether the extra money was worthwhile. I’m not precisely sure I’m the ideal kind of person for the monthly service, despite the fact that I do have some ideas about it. Let’s begin straight away.
Describe Discord.
Popular among Twitch streamers, game developers, and others is the free chat tool Discord. Discord has up to 250 million members, which is just insane, according to Digital Trends. You can share live gaming footage and text or voice chats using the app. Although it is comparable to programs like Zoom and Skype, I believe it to be easier to use and was created with the gaming community in mind.

Most individuals use Discord to communicate with their friends, but it may also be used to connect with people from other communities and form bonds through shared interests. I frequently check the server for updates and artwork on the eerie co-op game Devour.
Basic Nitro Versus. Nitro
Nitro Basic and Nitro are the two tiers of Discord’s monthly subscription service. The 50MB upload limit, personalized emojis, and exclusive Nitro badge are all included with the Basic version. In contrast, Nitro provides more significant upgrades like 500MB uploads, HD video streaming, access to activities, personalized profiles, and so on. Basic costs $2.99 per month, while Nitro is $9.99. Me?
I made the decision to go all out and sign up for the more expensive monthly membership program (also known as Nitro). I would have been satisfied with the Basic version after using it for approximately a month. There are simply too many features in Nitro that I never use.

My Profile Picture Is an Animated Gif Because I Like It, but That’s About It.
I was a big Iron Chef fan when I signed up for Discord’s Nitro service. I chose none other than the show’s Chairman as my profile photo because the site lets me utilize an animated GIF. Is it amusing? Absolutely. Does it merit $9.99 per month? No.
Nitro is not the best service for a casual Discord user like me unless you routinely use all of its services, such as sharing higher-quality films and uploading larger files. I only interact with a small group of individuals on Discord, and I don’t frequently share large files or live broadcast my gaming. That being said, Nitro is definitely worthwhile if you stream on Twitch.

Although I Wouldn’t Use It Much, the Activities Feature Is Fun.
You may play straightforward party games like Poker or Chess or watch YouTube videos with your pals when you unlock the Activities option with Nitro. It resembles Jackbox somewhat, however, there isn’t as much of a selection and the games aren’t as engaging. Activities still come across as more of an experiment than Jackbox, which has it down to science today.
Although I admire the concept behind this tool, I don’t use Discord for that purpose. To speak with pals while gaming, I use Discord. I don’t go there to get my entertainment requirements met. For those requirements, I use Epic Games or Steam. For me, it’s more about socialization.

For Twitch Streams or Larger Discord Servers, Nitro Is a Better Fit.
Nitro is definitely worthwhile if you manage a sizable Discord server. All of those elements are necessary to maintain community interest and entertainment. Me? I oversee a five-person server. I use the server every day, but I don’t really need all the bells and whistles. For someone to check in just to communicate with a few chosen individuals is simply too much.

A hefty monthly cost of $9.99 for something I seldom utilized. Honestly, the basics are all I really need, and Discord provides those right away.
