A file can be converted from one format to another using CloudConvert. It links to Box, Dropbox, Google Drive, and OneDrive and can read files in more than 200 different formats. Because of this, CloudConvert is a crucial web application for Chromebook users.

The service is what I turn to most frequently when I want to prepare image files. All screenshots taken by Chrome OS are saved in PNG format. However, JPG-formatted photos are required for some projects. I use CloudConvert to change the PNG format of screenshots I take on my Chromebook to JPG.

Sometimes CloudConvert offers a more accurate conversion than Google Drive. For instance, both services provide PDF-to-document conversion. A PDF file can be converted by CloudConvert into a DOCX file, which you can then open in Google Docs.

Although you can also open a PDF in Google Docs and then convert it to a Google Doc by selecting File > Edit. Try the alternative approach if the first one doesn’t deliver an exact conversion.

Some conversions are marked as experimental by CloudConvert. For instance, I uploaded a Keynote presentation file to Google Drive from an iPhone.

The target conversion format, a PowerPoint PPTX file, was marked as experimental when I went to convert the file. However, the file was converted without any issues. Conversion issues, however, could arise with intricate slides, images, or charts.

A wide range of music and video file formats are also supported by the service. You can convert video files to MP4 format as well as audio ones, as you might imagine.

You may also extract the audio from a video file using CloudConvert. As an illustration, I chose a.MOV file and converted it to.MP3 format. I received an audio-only.MP3 file as a result.

Both iOS and the web can be used with CloudConvert. To add CloudConvert to Chrome or your Chromebook, install it from the Chrome web store. You may then right-click on a file in Google Drive and select “Open with…” before selecting “CloudConvert.”

Choose where to save the converted file and personalise your output options after allowing CloudConvert access to your account. Alternately, download the CloudConvert iOS app to your iPad or iPhone.

CloudConvert doesn’t charge for infrequent use. CloudConvert’s services are still free if you convert files under 1 GB, fewer than five files at once, and for less than 25 minutes per day.

You have two paid alternatives that let you convert bigger files, more files at once, and use more file conversion time: a pre-paid package or a subscription. With the prepaid plan, you can purchase 500–1,000,000 conversion minutes for a cost ranging from $8–$2,621 each minute.

Prepaid minutes never run out. A predetermined number of minutes for converting files are included in the monthly membership; for instance, $8 gets you 1,000 minutes.

Additionally, paid users to have access to extra services like folder monitoring. On Google Drive (or Dropbox), you can choose a folder and set conversion parameters for the files put inside the folder. For instance, you may decide to resize any image you place in the folder to a particular size.

Or to create a PDF version of each Word document you place in a folder, or both. CloudConvert keeps an eye on the folder and automatically converts newly additional files.

CloudConvert began testing the service’s integration with Zapier in February 2016. This will enable you to incorporate file conversion into Zapier workflows, or “Zaps.”

Since Multi-Step Zaps were just released by Zapier, the connection might save a lot of time for any process requiring the conversion of numerous files across formats.

One of those helpful web tools, CloudConvert, may not be something you need right away. Try it out the next time you complain, “I can’t open this file,” though. That file you can’t utilize might be converted into one you can with the help of CloudConvert.
