Apple CarPlay routes everything through the infotainment system in your car so you can access your iOS apps while you’re driving, hands-free. And up until Apple CarPlay stops functioning properly, that’s amazing. You may be unable to hear anything when CarPlay is connected, or CarPlay apps may not open properly.

Here’s how to reconnect everything if Apple CarPlay isn’t functioning.

Why Apple CarPlay Doesn’t Work

Even if Apple CarPlay has in the past worked, there are a number of reasons why it might not operate now or in the future. These consist of:

issues with a recent iOS update.
complications with app integration.
Problems with compatibility.
No iPhone was found.

How to Resolve Apple CarPlay Problems

No matter the problem—no connection, no sound, or unresponsive apps—there are a number of measures you may do to fix it. To test if it fixes your issue and restarts CarPlay, try each of these instructions. Move on to the following one if not. You’ll probably have found a solution to whatever issue you may be facing before you get to the end of the list.

Make sure CarPlay is compatible with your car and your area before you start. You won’t be able to connect to it or use any of the features of CarPlay is not available in your area.

Verify that CarPlay is turned on on your iPhone. The CarPlay connection may be disrupted by a number of settings. For instance, you’ll need to re-enable CarPlay if you’ve disabled it previously.

For that, connect your car to the app by going to Settings > General > CarPlay.

You may also go to Settings > Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions > Allowed Apps to allow it again if you disabled it in Screen Time.

Make sure Siri is turned on by checking. Siri must be turned on for CarPlay to function. If it isn’t, check that the following options are turned on in Settings > Siri & Search:

Watch out for “Hey Siri”
For Siri, press the side button.
When locked, allow Siri
The setting that causes people the most trouble because it isn’t constantly active is Allow Siri When Locked.

Ensure that CarPlay is on even when the door is locked. CarPlay won’t operate if your phone’s screen is off and if it isn’t enabled when locked. To fix this, navigate to Settings > General > CarPlay and choose your vehicle from the list of connected devices. Turn on Allow CarPlay While Locked after that.

Check your USB cables if wireless connectivity isn’t working. Make sure none of the wires on the original iPhone USB cable, if you’re using one, are frayed or broken. Try a different cable if you’re using an aftermarket one. Sometimes, simply replacing the cable can take care of any issues you may be having.

Ensure you’re plugged into the correct port if you’re not connecting wirelessly. Many contemporary vehicles have many USB ports, but not all of them will necessarily function to connect CarPlay to your vehicle.

Look for the iOS or CarPlay symbol. Try each USB port on your infotainment system to see if one of them is specific to your CarPlay connection if you don’t see one of those.

Check your iPhone to make sure it is not in Airplane Mode if your car allows a wireless CarPlay connection. Your phone may not be able to communicate with your car since Airplane Mode stops it from establishing any wireless connections.

When using a wireless connection, confirm that Bluetooth is turned on and that the iPhone is plugged into the vehicle.

It can be a good idea to disconnect any unused Bluetooth connections while you’re connecting your Bluetooth. Although it’s unlikely (but still possible) that these outdated connections will affect your connection, it’s recommended to get rid of them just to be safe.

Restart your car after you restart your iPhone. Sometimes turning everything off and back on again will solve the problem, and things will connect smoothly the second time.

Verify that your iPhone is completely updated. You might not have the required drivers or software to complete the connection to CarPlay if your phone is out of the current. Any problems you might be having could be fixed by updating.

Forget about your CarPlay connection and make it again. You’ll need to pick the vehicle you’re attempting to connect to by going to Settings > General > CarPlay. Next, select Forget This Car. Restart both your car and your iPhone after that, and then try to re-establish the connection.

Click Available Cars under Settings > General > CarPlay if your vehicle is wirelessly capable. then pick your vehicle to establish the connection.

Reconnect the USB cord if you’re using a wired connection, and then adhere to any on-screen instructions that arise.

You should get in touch with Apple Support to see if they can help you with the problem if you’re still having difficulties connecting or if CarPlay isn’t functioning properly.
