By reading and altering online content, browser extensions give Safari additional capabilities that are suited to your needs and encourage an integrated surfing experience. Apple-approved Safari extensions can be found on two websites: the Safari Extensions Gallery and the App Store.
With Safari 12, available on iOS 12 and macOS Mojave, Apple changed how its built-in web browser works with extensions. The Safari Extensions Gallery page is where you must download and install a Mac software or an extension that has been approved by Apple, as opposed to the previous when you could simply download an extension from a developer.
The gallery is still considered a secure way to download and install Safari extensions and is still functional for browser versions dating back as far as version 9. All programs from the App Store and Gallery page can update automatically regardless of the browser version.
In addition to blocking dated extensions from other sources, Safari 12 is currently deprecating its own Extensions Gallery. At the end of 2018, it stopped accepting new Gallery extension submissions, hastening the move away from the Gallery in favor of the App Store. In Mohave’s most recent browser, most extensions continue to function flawlessly.
The App Store’s browser extension section, which you can get by selecting Safari > Safari Extensions, is currently somewhat sparsely populated. Only 27 of the 66 App extensions that are currently offered are free. The remaining twelve items range in price from 99 cents to $19.99. The top free extensions from both sources are shown below.
Ghostery Lite
The free version of Ghostery, Ghostery Lite, disables advertising and trackers that send and receive user data. In order to reduce the amount of information Safari shares with other websites without compromising performance, the extension discards content, cookies, and tracking scripts using the browser’s native Content Blocker API.

By selecting the default configuration or specifically blocking some ads while leaving others for websites you want to promote, Ghostery may be customized via the toolbar button. The extension can also be used to control pornographic material, audio or video players, analytics, and more.

Translate
Not being able to interpret multilingual web information contextually is annoying when you encounter it. By using either the Microsoft or Google Translate functions, Translate enables you to translate web pages from any language to any other language.
The contextual menu, keyboard shortcut, and a number of other translation services are also accessible via the toolbar button. n You can select the desired service region and decide whether to translate pages automatically or manually in the settings.
TranslateMe, an upgraded version available on the Mac App Store, costs $9.99.
Zoom
Sometimes the text on websites is simply too small. Zoom, a straightforward addon that allows you to change the scale of content on any webpage, can help you resolve such problems.
Any size text or image is made easier to see in a full page context by simply launching the app from the toolbar. The slider ranges from 0 to 400 percent. With the slider or the plus or minus buttons, you can change the sizes. A button labeled “Default” instantly returns the website to its original state.
TrafficLight
The internet frequently gives the impression of being a huge mirror reflecting every user back at them, spying on and documenting most activity for both profitable and sinister reasons. The TrafficLight Safari plugin is provided by Bitdefender, the maker of the well-known anti-virus product of the same name.
It acts as a sophisticated malware protection filter to protect your browsing from phishing attempts. In addition, a safe search tool especially analyzes search results to alert users about malware and fraudulent websites. It uncovers hidden trackers that record and analyze your browser activities.
HoverSee

On some websites, content scaling might be a problem, making some graphics particularly challenging to read. When you hover your cursor over any images or image-based video links, HoverSee enlarges them and displays any accompanying descriptions.
It works particularly well with direct image links, connections to picture galleries and thumbnail images on social media sites like Facebook and Twitter. YouTube will immediately start playing your video in its magnified mode if you mouse over it.
You can change the minimum and maximum zoom, add or remove websites from your white or blacklist, use a hot key to control the zoom on particular photographs, turn movies on or off, and more.
DuckDuckGo
With this Safari extension, you may benefit from DuckDuckGo’s privacy and security features even if you don’t already use it as your preferred search engine. With the help of the plugin, you can search without having your search history saved or being tracked around the internet. To access the search box, simply click the icon in the toolbar or choose it from the right-click contextual menu.

Shortly
It’s helpful to break up long URLs into smaller ones when you want to include them in an email or social media message, and that’s where Shortly comes in. You can select Google, Bitly, TinyURL, or Custom Endpoint as your desired service.
Simply enable the extension in Safari Preferences, click the toolbar button on the browser, or program a hotkey to instantly shorten any URL. Your trim URL is presented as a popover that is ready to be copied and pasted.
