Players owe a debt of gratitude to a raccoon by the name of Tom Nook in Animal Crossing: New Horizons on the Nintendo Switch.
Hisashi Nogami and Aya Kyogoku, the game’s producer and director, believe that the character is misunderstood.
Tom Nook, a raccoon in Animal Crossing:
New Horizons, owes players money in the same way as in previous games in the series. You’ll need to pay off ever-increasing loans in order to get ahead in the game and enlarge your home.
As in previous Animal Crossing games, players are obligated to help a raccoon named Tom Nook. You’ll need to pay off ever-increasing loans in order to get ahead in the game and enlarge your home.
As a result of this concept, Nook has developed a reputation for being avaricious and just interested in making money. This has been the subject of innumerable memes and wiki entries.

A new game in the series claims that the shrewd raccoon is misunderstood by the public.

“We think Tom Nook is a very caring, really great guy,” New Horizons producer Hisashi Nogami tells The Verge.
“He’s never irate.”
In the eyes of Nogami, Nook does not appear to be a greedy person. Instead, he interprets the character’s preoccupation with money as an indication of personal accountability.
As an adult, “he’s very cautious with money,” he says. According to Nogami, the most crucial aspect of the Animal Crossing experience is the existence of the Nook.
If players didn’t have those huge loans to pay off, they wouldn’t spend so much time fishing, catching bugs, and doing other things to earn cash.

“It’s one of the most important reasons that people keep playing Animal Crossing, and Tom Nook is the man behind that incentive,” he says.
Aya Kyogoku, the director of New Horizons, says that while many Animal Crossing gamers have a negative view of Nook, they should try to see the character in a more positive light.
If we owe him money and it takes a while to repay him, she explains, “he never gets furious or mad.”
In order to make him feel better, we should all do our best to be more responsible and pay him back.
A new Animal Crossing title, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, will be available for the Nintendo Switch on March 20th.
This week, we’ll be sharing more from our conversation with Kyogoku and Nogami.
