It’s unusual for breakthrough innovations to appear in the travel industry. Already, there is a plethora of devices that have improved flying, from neck pillows to eye masks to luggage trackers. The Twelve South AirFly Duo is a must-have for both frequent and infrequent fliers alike.
Simply said, this Bluetooth wireless transmitter enables you to use your own wireless headphones to access the in-flight entertainment system and enjoy movies, TV shows, and more. What this means is that you can keep your preferred noise-canceling Bluetooth headphones in your ears and avoid using the abysmal corded headphones that airlines typically provide.
Twelve South AirFly Duo Wireless Transmitter
Essential for using your own headphones with in-flight movies and shows.
The AirFly Duo may be little, but its power is anything but. The Bluetooth wireless transmitter is an excellent item to have on hand for any trip if you want to listen to your own music through your own headphones without compromising on sound quality.
It weighs next to nothing, can be paired in seconds with any Bluetooth device (not just Apple products), and can keep going for over 20 hours on a single charge. The AirFly Duo is a great buy for frequent fliers.

Subway Stop Number Twelve South You can use AirPods or Beats wireless headphones with in-flight entertainment, in the gym, or wherever else there is a wired socket but no Bluetooth connectivity by purchasing the AirFly Pro adapter.
If you want to use your AirPods on a flight, just connect AirFly Pro to the plane’s headphone jack. Alternately, you can utilize AirFly Pro to link your Powerbeats Pro to the TV in the gym by plugging them into the jack on the treadmill.

What We Loved About It
In the end, the AirFly Duo eliminates one of the most frustrating aspects of air travel: the inability to use one’s own high-quality headphones or earbuds with the in-flight entertainment system.
Since AirFly advertises itself as “the missing link between wireless headphones and wired headphone jacks,” it can be used on a wide variety of non-aerospace devices in addition to the plane.
The gadget is simple to use; all you need to do is connect it to the headphone connector of your electronic device and then to your Bluetooth wireless headphones.
The AirFly Duo’s ease of use is one of our favorite features. The AirFly itself is only 4.1 inches in length, making it ideal for stowing in a carry-on bag or even a pocket, and you’ll also receive a quick-start guide and a protective drawstring case. In this case, less is more, and we appreciate that Twelve South provides exactly what you need.

The AirFly is extremely simple to pair with your preferred wireless headphones. After charging the AirFly completely with the provided charging cord, we paired our AirPods Pro in under 30 seconds by pressing the appropriate buttons on both the AirFly and the AirPods case.
In our tests, the AirFly’s audio output was unaffected by the presence of other Bluetooth headphones, even when the plane was nearly at capacity.
The ability to share audio with a traveling companion is one of our favorite features of the AirFly Duo. You and your traveling companion can watch the same movie at the same time thanks to the device’s ability to pair with two separate wireless Bluetooth devices.
With the AirFly Duo, you no longer have to worry about starting and pausing a film on different screens at the same time.

While flying from London to New York, we tested the AirFly Duo and found that its battery life was sufficient for the entire trip. Twelve South claims that a single charge of the AirFly Duo will last for 20 hours.
The ability to charge it via an external plug while still using it is a major plus. Any source of electricity, such as a battery pack allowed by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), will suffice to keep your AirFly operational.
The AirFly works with more than just Apple products, including those that aren’t AirPods. The Duo may not be ideal for everyone, but there are other AirFly drones to choose from.
The AirFly Pro ($54.99 $46.74 on Amazon) is another option that can be used to connect two headphones at once as well as to transmit sound from a mobile device to an external speaker or vehicle.
The AirFly Duo has a lot going for it. It’s a great product that all explorers should be eager to test out, from its tiny and portable size (with the convenient drawstring pouch) to the simplicity with which it can be connected to one’s preferred headphones.
We Didn’t Like It Because of The Following Reasons:
We had a hard time finding fault with the AirFly Duo because it has so many great features. However, we found it frustrating because there was a brief delay in reconnecting our Bluetooth-enabled wireless headphones after turning the AirFly off and on again.
However, after waiting a short while, the devices were paired without any further intervention. It’s possible that the only solution is to be patient and not try to “over-pair” your AirFly. Just let it do what it does best and get out of the way.
When we get picky, the AirFly Duo isn’t exactly inexpensive. You’ll have to put up about $50 for each gadget. However, we think it’s a worthwhile expenditure, especially if you travel frequently.
The Bottom Line
Is there going to be another flight where the AirFly Duo is not present? No, I doubt it. The convenience of the tool makes it well worth the space it takes up in your suitcase on every trip.
It’s small enough to fit in any suitcase, compatible with a wide range of electronic gadgets, and, most importantly, frees you from the tyranny of the airline-issued headset.
The AirFly gadgets are a no-brainer if you travel often, or even if you don’t because you can still find plenty of uses for the transmitter at home.
